T. Michael grew up in Mayodan, NC playing baseball and singing in church. When he was in the seventh grade, he and a friend were at basketball practice when a new music group came on the transistor radio that put him on a path that he would follow the rest of this life. That group was the Beatles. In college he developed an appreciation of folk music at Appalachian State University. He followed his music path down the road to Deep Gap when he began playing and touring with Doc and Merle Watson. With Doc and Merle, T. Michael toured the world and participated in many Grammy nominated and Grammy awarded recordings. After 15 years, the path led T. Michael to begin performing and recording with the Seldom Scene. This branched off to Chesapeake and other music projects such as Ready For The Times with Bryan Sutton and David Holt. T. Michael rejoined Doc Watson and toured again with him till the end of his career. T. Michael has released three solo projects and his book about his time with Doc and Merle and his musical life will be released in 2024. The working title is “Sittin’ In The Middle”.
